About Anna

Anna de Basaldúa, piano teacher in South Kensington

Anna de Basaldúa, MMus Perf, BMus (Hons) was born in Bilbao where she obtained a Piano Teaching Diploma with first class honours at the Music Conservatoire. Still a teenager, she studied with Guido Agosti in Rome and later with Pierre Sancan in Paris, where she also attended the École Normale de Musique Alfred Cortot. Her mentor in Moscow was E.G. Ginsburg. Anna has a Masters and Bachelor of Music (Hons) degree from the University of West London, where she gained the Raphael Terroni Piano Prize.

Selected highlights

  • Taught at the Conservatoire de Courbevoie (Paris) and various music schools in Paris and in Spain, as well as in adult education and in a school in London.
  • Performed at the Castello Sforzesco, part of the Milan Expo 2015, Festival di Arenzano, Salle Ravel in Paris, Festival du Pays de Caux in Normandy, Sociedad Filarmónica in Bilbao, Fundación March and the Sociedad del Real Ateneo in Madrid.

Lessons & Approach

Who I teach

Children aged 4+, preparing for exams, adult beginners/returners, and advanced students (including Diploma level).

How lessons work

  • Fundamentals: relaxed posture, sound production, technique (scales/arpeggios/etudes)
  • Musical understanding: style, phrasing, harmony; duet playing to build listening
  • Performance: mock exams, concerts, confidence and stagecraft

Exam prep

ABRSM/Trinity grades and Diplomas. Competition coaching where appropriate.

Special educational needs

Experience with autistic learners (esp. Asperger's). Calm, structured lessons; incremental goals; positive reinforcement.

Lesson format

50 minutes. Weekly sessions in term time. Studio in SW7; online available on request.
